Jin Period Cizhou type Red/Green Enamelled wares

In the 1970s, a group of Jin period statues of Buddhist deities were found in an ancient tunnel in Hebei Handan Fengfeng Kuangqu (邯郸市峰峰矿区).   The statue each with a height of about 60cm were produced in the kiln in Linshui township (临水镇). Linshui in Fengfeng Kuangqu was an important ancient Cizhou ware production centre.  The statues are decorated with low-fired overglaze red, green and yellow enamels and some areas with high-fired underglaze black.

Based on pieces found in dated context, Cizhou overglaze enamelled ware are now widely believed to be produced during the Jin period.  In fact, the earliest pieces found in Linshui were from the Jin Tai He  (金泰和) period (1201 - 1208 A.D).
