Chang Er¡¡£¨æ϶ð£©

There were once ten sun, who were the offspring of Dijun, God of the Eastern Heaven. They were supposed to take turn to travel around the world on a carriage, driven by Xihe (deity) the 'mother' of the suns.  Subsequently, the Sun-birds grew tired of the routine and decided to rise all at once. The intense heat scorched the earth and caused catastrophic sufferings.  Yao, the Emperor of China sort the help of  Dijun.

Dijun summoned Houyi, the God of Archery, to teach his sons a lesson. Houyi was supposed to simply frighten them.  instead, he shot down 9 of them to prevent a recurrence of the mischief.  Houyi's actions incurred the wrath of Heaven and was banished from heaven.  He subsequently married Chang Er, the daughter of the water god.

Houyi was concerned about his mortality and traveled to the palace of Xi Wang Mu, the Queen Mother of the West to seek her her elixir of immortality. In exchange for building her a summer palace, he was given the elixir. Upon his return, he was summoned by Emperor Yao to attend to some urgent missions. In his absence,  Change Er drank the elixir out of curiosity. At that moment, Houyi returned and to his surprise found his wife ascending to the moon.  Chang Er  gained immortality and forever live  on the moon with a white hare for company.
