Magnolia

The magnolia is an emblem of feminiine sweetness and beauty.  The buds, roots and bark are employed for medicinal purposes.  In chinese, magnolia is called yulan hua （玉兰花）as the petals are as white and beautiful as jade.  It is commonly grouped with peony to form the auspicious phrase yu tang fu qui (玉堂富贵) which means wealth and rank in the family. The word yu tang which is represented by the magnolia literally means jade hall.

The magnolia is also called  mubi hua (木笔花.)　　The second character bi sounds like certainty (必）.  A design of magnolia and taihu rock (a symbol of longevity) conveys the auspicious message of certainty of long life.
