Monkey

The monkey is usually used as a homophone for duke.  In chinese, the word hou (ºï£©for monkey also sounds like that for duke¡¡£¨ºî£©.  Usually the design has shows a monkey with a bee and sometime also depicting the monkey on a horse.

The chinese word for bee is feng¡¡(·ä£© which also sounds like to confer£¨·â£©.  Hence, a bee with a monkey alludes to conferment of dukeship£¨ºî£©.

On the horse in chinese is ma sheng (ÂíÉÏ£©which can also mean immediately.  Hence, a bee with monkey on a horse means immediately being confer a dukeship (ÂíÉÏ·âºî).

The design with combination of motif of monkey, bee and horse is hence related to congratulatory message of  getting a  promotion to a high appointment.
