Persimmon

Persimmon in chinese is shi () which is a homophone for affair/thing/matter (). Commonly group with some homophone objects to convey auspicious message that all things are going smoothly or all things as one wishes.  For eg. two persimmons and a ruyi (which symbolises as one wishes)  is shi shi ruyi (事事如意)ie everything as one wishes.  Another design has cypress (), persimmon and lingzhi fungus. Cypress is pronounced as bai which is a homophone for hundred (百).  The lingzhi fungus is shaped like a ruyi (meaning as one wish).  Hence, the message bai shi ruyi (百事如意) ie hundred things goes smoothly. If the cypress is replaced by Rohdea Japonica, ie wan nian qing (万年青),a plant which is evergreen, it means millions things as one wishes (万事如意).
