Yang Guifei

Yang Yuhuan (楊玉環), more commonly known as Yáng Guìfēi ( 杨贵妃), Guifei being the highest rank for imperial consorts in Tang Dynasty.  She was one of the Four famous Beauties of ancient China, the other three were Xishi, Wang Zhaojun and Diaochan. She was the favourite consort of Tang Emperor Xuanzong. During the Anshi Rebellion, while Emperor Xuanzong was fleeing from the capital Chang'an to Chengdu, the palace guards demanded that she be killed as they blamed the rebellion on her powerful cousin Yang Guozhong and the rest of her family.  Despite his reluctance, Xuanzong had to acceded to their request for his own safety.
