Zhou Chu

Zhou Chu (周处)was born in 242 and died in 297.  He came from an illustrious family background.  Both his grandfather and father were the official of the Wu State during the Three Kingdoms Period.

Zhou Chu became an orphan at an early age.   As a teenager he was strong and was a notorious bully feared by the folks.  He was referred to as one of the "three harms", the other two were the fierce tiger in the Nanshan (North) Mountain (南山)and the ferocious dragon in Changqiao (长桥)

He was later challenged by a wise old man to rid the town of its three beasts.  He killed both the tiger and the dragon.  Upon his return after killing the dragon, he was shunned by the folks.   The wise old man revealed to him that the third beast was Zhou Chu himself whom was feared by the entire town and the folks would like to see destroyed.

Zhou Chu was shamed by the revelation. Thereafter, he mended his ways and started anew.  Zhou studied diligently and became a prominent official, scholar, and writer.
