Toad

Toad motif is usually assoicated with the three-legged toad of the Chinese mythology.  It is said to live in the moon. In one version of the folk legend, it is Chang er,  who stole the elixir of immortality which belonged to her husband Hou yi.   She was punished by being transformed into a toad.  Hence, the toad is associated with immortality.

It also swallows the moon and is the cause of eclipses.  In chinese, the moon is also sometime termed chan gong, literally meaning toad palace.

The deity, Liu hai is said to have captured this three-legged toad with the abiity to spit silver and gold coins.  Hence, it is also associated with the acquisition of wealth.
